The Venue

Bushfire 2016 is located at The University of Queensland’s (UQ) main campus St Lucia and is set on a magnificent 114-hectare site bounded on all sides by the Brisbane River, seven kilometres from the Brisbane CBD. The campus fans out from a 1930s, heritage-listed sandstone Cloister enclosing the Great Court.

UQ ranks in the top 50 as measured by the QS World University Rankings and the Performance Ranking of Scientific Papers for World Universities. The University also ranks 52 in the US News Best Global Universities Rankings, 60 in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings and 77 in the Academic Ranking of World Universities. Over the last five years UQ has attracted more Australian Research Council funding for discovery and early-career research than any other Australian university.

What are my transport/parking options for Bushfire 2016?

Getting there by car:
The main entrance to the University is along Sir Fred Schonell Drive, located on Map 179 F2 of the UBD Brisbane "Refidex" Street Directory. From Brisbane's Central Business District, Sir Fred Schonell Drive is most easily accessed via Coronation Drive.

Getting there by ferry:
The CityCat ferry is the most enjoyable and often the most convenient means of getting to the St Lucia campus. The campus CityCat terminal is located near the corner of Sir William MacGreggor Drive and Blair Drive.

Getting there by bus:
There are two bus stations located at the University of Queensland - Chancellor's Place bus station and UQ lakes bus station. From Brisbane's Central Business District, the Brisbane City Council bus routes which run directly to the University of Queensland are the 412 (Express from City to Chancellor's place station), the 411 (City to Chancellor's place station) and the 109 (City to UQ lakes station). Other BCC bus routes which stop here are the 402 (Toowong to Chancellor's Place station), the 428 (Indooroopilly to Chancellor's Place station), the 427 (Chapel Hill to Chancellor's Place station), the 432 (Kenmore to Chancellor's Place station), the 414 (West Taringa to Chancellor's Place station),the 209 (Carindale Interchange to UQ Lakes station), the 169 (Eight Mile Plains busway station to UQ Lakes station) and the 139 (Calamvale to UQ Lakes Station).

The main bus stop on the St Lucia campus is located at Chancellor's Place near the J.D. Story building. The other bus station is located at UQ Lakes (near Field No.3 and Alumni teaching garden). For timetables and further information, try the TransLink Website or call TransLink on 13 12 30.

Getting there by train:
The nearest train station to the St Lucia campus is Toowong, on the Citytrain Ipswich Line. From Toowong Station, cross Benson Street and catch a bus to UQ - the 402, 411, or 412.

Alternatively the Dutton Park stop on the Beenleigh/Ferny Grove train line is situated near the Eleanor Schonell Bridge. It is possible to walk from this station over the Eleanor Schonell bridge to the St Lucia campus.

You can also catch the Beenleigh/Ferny Grove, Shorncliffe/Cleveland, or Airport/Gold Coast lines to Park Road Train Station and walk over the overpass to the Boggo Road Busway to catch the #66, #29, #139, #169, or #209 bus to UQ Lakes.

Getting there by bicycle:
The St Lucia campus is easily accessed by bicycle, with a safe riverside bicycle path connecting the campus to the city as well as via the Eleanor Schonell bridge. Find out about bicycle travel to UQ from the Cycling at UQ website. in Brisbane here. Bike parking facilities are available.

Does the St Lucia Campus allow for differing accessibility?

Yes. Look within the accessibility map for the following:

  • Precinct 4 (P4) Building 3 Steele Building level 2 Lecture Theatre 206, and search for building 23 and 22.

Where can I get a coffee?

There are several places to get your fix of coffee that are within a short walk of the venue.

  • Bar Merlo - Duhig Building facing the Great Court, open from 7am
  • The Deck found in the UQ Sport and Fitness Centre, open from 7am
  • Wordsmiths Cafe, open from 7am

Accommodation

The University of Queensland, St Lucia Campus is close to Toowong, South Bank, West End and Brisbane City.
